Re: Max Payne Movie
Mark Wahlberg as max payne i think is a terrible choice.
Mila Kunis as mona is an even worse choice. Oh god.... i can hear her squeaky annoying voice right now. |

Interesting to note that Sam Lake is credited as one of the script writers. The director is sure to have fun with Jack Lupino, having directed The Omen and other demonic films and TV series.

Re: Max Payne Movie
Mila can play the role. Check her out in American Psycho 2 and her part on After Sex. Combine them and you might have a workable Mona.
The voice, though... will need some work. She's not a tall woman, either. Hmm.

Re: Max Payne Movie
Can't say I'm thrilled with the casting choices so far, although I don't know any of their work. Maybe it's just me, but Mark Wahlberg looks too much like a 'nice guy' to be Max...

Re: Max Payne Movie
Mark Wahlberg has been in a good 30 or so movies, several still in post production. Follow the link and see that he's listed in the Max Payne movie already.
He used be known as Marky Mark, a white rapper fresh off the heels of Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block fame. Though not particularly successful in the music business (most likely a great thing for him) he's certainly earned his chops making movies. He has credits in such movies as 'We Own the Night', 'The Departed', 'Four Brothers', 'The Italian Job', 'Saw III', and 'Saw IV' which all show a very strong dramatic flair for him. Personally, I think he's come a loooooong way from the 'Planet of the Apes' remake and his other earlier movies. Mila Kunis has been in a ton of stuff, too, but she is best known for her role as the shallow and dim-witted Jackie. As for her dramatic roles, she played the serial killer and focus of 'American Psycho 2' (though as the movie was meant to be more of a black comedy, I'm not really sure you could call it 'dramatic'), and a little known psudo-documentary 'After Sex' where she played a rather cold-hearted girl who finds the joy in getting her roommate to come out of the closet. Most of her work is in comedy, doing the voice of Meg in Family Guy and many other voices for Robot Chicken (which seems to be able to get anyone famous to do a voice or two from time to time). Because of this background, I'm iffy on if she can pull off a good Mona. Her voice is definitely in the 'nasally' category and can pierce your eardrums if the volume is too high or you're not expecting it, and it often took away from the feel of her character in 'American Psycho 2'. Ironically, though, it seemed to help her in 'After Sex'. It might be just me, but I also think she may be too short. She comes off as a particularly petite woman to me. Then again, Mark isn't that tall of a guy, so they might fit the hight difference we'd be used to.

Re: Max Payne Movie
That was his brother, Donnie.
There was an interview with the producers a while ago where they said they were working with the creators of the game. I'm assuming they mean Sam Lake, making sure the characters were being portrayed properly. Personally, I have to say I am excited for this one. It's one of the few video game conversions to have a proper storyline attached to it, so they can't really screw up the script unless they do something radically different. From what the synopsis has told us, they're using the same storyline as Max Payne, I don't see any problems doing that. There's even the chance to flesh out parts of the storyline that were passed during the game such as Michelle finding the Project Valhalla file, Lisa's death and the whereabouts of Mona during the game's events. I was once planning on scripting Mona's storyline throughout the games, so I know there is enough material in there for her own game.

Re: Max Payne Movie
Mark Wahlberg is 5"7 in height and Mila Kunis is 5"3.
But you can bet the camera will make them both look taller than they really are. Happens in movies all the time. Personally, I think they could have found someone else that would fit the role as Max Payne better than Marky Mark, but he always does seem to put in a lot of effort into his roles, while his acting skill isn't superb, he does seem to put in a lot of effort and you can see this on screen. So ultimately, even though they could have selected someone else, I think Mark can pull off this role even though I'm not too happy with the selection. Mila Kunis on the other hand, I can't give ANY words of reassurance for her role as Mona. Here is a screenshot of Mark Whalberg as Max:

Re: Max Payne Movie
He could be playing either Alex or BB, we really don't know. That limo would belong to one of the mobsters, Vinnie Cognitti perhaps. I don't think Vlad would be interacting with anyone at that point in the story.
All this points to more backstory about the case and the relationship between Max and his co-workers.

Re: Max Payne Movie
But then you have to ask what Vlad is doing talking to someone in a limo on a sidewalk, it's more likely that Vlad is in the limo.
Remember it's Alex and BB that were trying to infiltrate the mob, when obviously Alex got too close and BB was already "one of them". cubezero: I don't get your meaning...

Re: Max Payne Movie
Well, it has to be someone contacting a person in a position of importance (Punchinello or Vlad). Vlad didn't come in to the storyline until after Lupino was dead, so that leaves Punchinello. The only people who would talk to Punchinello directly would be Lupino, who would send Vinnie instead. Vinnie was scared of Lupino and was looking to get out of his reach, perhaps get higher in the mob family.
The only other thing I can think of is the tip-off that leads Max on to Punchinello's trail. That could be done by someone like Vlad tipping off Alex.

This is all assuming the movie script follows the game's.

My first impression was that the limo belonged to Nicole Horne.

Re: Max Payne Movie
Just from the look of his character, he's probably playing as Alex. The death of Alex is a fairly key scene and they probably want to have a bit of backstory with him so my guess is he will only be around for the first half of the movie.

Besides, if he is playing Alex, he looks really good to play the part. Hell, they could have gotten someone a lot worse. Anyway, I am not totally thrilled with the casting choices BUT... it is looking very promising. IMHO.

Looks like some new additions to casting. They're labeled as "rumored" so don't get pissed right away at the bad choices, ala... well everyone really. Except Kate Burton, She's looks freakin' perfect. ...who the hell is Jason Colvin?!?

This is interesting, there's a tie from 3drealms (who produced the original Max Payne) to the upcoming film:

Re: Max Payne Movie
I think it would be a neat idea, plus show great respect to its roots, if Twentieth Century Fox makes one of Max Payne's promotional posters the exact same as the cover of Max Payne 2, this time with Mila & Mark in an armed embrace, sharing an intimate look.

Yeah that would be a good poster. I would actually buy it, if I liked the movie that is. I personally believe the cover of Max Payne 2 is one of the best video game covers ever.
