Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Now before we get off to an bad start here, I just want to stay that I know that remedy wants to keep things under wrap until they are ready to show us there progress.
But for crying out loud it is in now April 2008 and we still haven't gotten any new trailers or screenshots, I want to know more about the game, my patience is slowly running thin, I'm slowly starting to forget this game. even if a single screenshot of there latest build wouldn't hurt yous know. Any other people here feel the same way. Sorry if this sounds bad, I just dont want to see this game being another Duke Nukem Forever!.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
You know what's ironic about this situation? When Remedy does release some info on the game...the hype will restart. So, truly, it doesn't really matter if they don't release anything just to satisfy a few people's cravings.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Patience. The media "blackout" won't continue for too much longer.
Update: I mean that in the sense that Microsoft is aiming for a 2008 release, so it would be logical for marketing and promotional material to start appearing soon. I do not know any specific details or dates at this point in time. The latest solid information will always be displayed loud and clear on the front page news. Release date info is always updated on my sig.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
what does too much longer mean?
you better announce something this month or in early may nobody wants to wait 4 months for e3 to hear something just update us weekly or something or shit , just show a 2 minute gameplay demo and get some 2 million pre orders as a result ( im sure the game is in more then a playable state right now , if its not just inform us about the game) The most depressing things about this game coming from a gamer is this It was one of the FIRST games announced for 360 Yet i could ask 30 people on XBL about the game and they would say they have never heard of it before And now remedy is competing with alone in the dark 5 to boot they need to show something IMMEDIATELY Dont wait for e3 so this game goes un noticed because of games like gears 2 and banjo 3 |

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Guitlyspark: No need to act like that. Remedy are well aware that people want more information. When they feel it's best to start releasing new media they will.
It's not up to you to decide when's the best time for them, I'm sure they know. Also remember, that we as forum staff are in the same position as you. We are all eager for more information but it's best to be patient and let Remedy do what they do best. Create great games for YOU to enjoy. |

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Remedy is. They have always wished to develop a game within their own time frame without restrictions placed by publishers. That way they can create the best game that they want.
Due to the success that they have achieved with their previous games they can do that now with Alan Wake. |

Guilty Spark, look at it this way. I'm sure you've stopped caring for the most part like I do. Lost interest so to say. This is a win win situation for us if Remedy keeps this up:
If the game turns out to have low publicity and fails as a result, we get to laugh at Remedy for being idiots. If the game succeeds, we get to have a nice game that may finally pull me off my 360.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Microsoft have always treated it as one of their premier titles, often citing it as one of their most anticipated titles for 2008 (according to Microsoft, so don't take it as official!).
I'm certain that when the time comes, they will both start to release more information about the game. One thing I do know, is that Remedy does not wish to spoil the experience for players by revealing too much before its release. Due to the nature of the game, building up suspense is a key part, so there are plenty of reasons to leave parts of the game hidden until we can get our hands on it.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Of course, I meant that in the sense that Microsoft has been mentioning "2008" for the past couple of months, and if you take in to account the time needed for proper marketing and promotion, my guess is that we are not too far off seeing something new.
Though I have to say, watching my innocent comment explode on to a random news site shows just how much anticipation there is for the game. In 13 hours, that story has already hyped up 64 comments on one site alone. Update: 10 news sites and counting... For anyone following links from news sites: - I do not know when the blackout will end - When we hear anything from Remedy or Microsoft regarding any kind of new information, we will post it loud and clear. There are no tricks up our sleeves at the moment.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
I think the blackout will continue, but not for long... I think it is good that the remedy doesn't spoil us any information so we have the best experience, but then nobody won't buy it if they don't know what is this game is all about. I mean GTA IV is hyped so much and so would be AW if they would release information about the game every month or something like that. But it is important that we know what are the basic gameplay elements. Now we only know that this game: has new kind of use flashlight, physics and open environment, but nothing more. I think the main reason for hype is because of the graphics. But if they don't upgrade graphics and will release it somewhere 2010 nobody will buy it because the only thing that we can look from trailers are the graphics. That is why the Crysis sold so good:"Graphics", but everyhing else sucked in my opinion. AW looks still good, but it won't be long when the quality in other games is as good as AW. I hope remedy knows what to do...

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
You'll find that updating the graphics won't be a problem. Game engines are modular nowadays and as such upgrading the rendering engine doesn't take as long as it used to.

"That is why the Crysis sold so good"
Actually, it has sold very poorly (and reviewed poorly). Graphics don't sell a game obviously. Game play does. |

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
That's not actually true. Crysis just didn't sell well in the US, and nobody bothered to research its sales elsewhere. It's sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
You guys have been quoted by Eurogamer and Action Trip. Congratulations!, though I guess it could have been under better circumstances, namely ACTUAL UPDATES to the game you advocate
![]() I’d actually prefer getting only scraps before release. I know that’s not possible in these intertube ADD days, but “building up suspense is a key part, so there are plenty of reasons to leave parts of the game hidden until we can get our hands on it.” Some of the better games these past few years didn’t engorge its fanbase in media, and they didn’t have to. You can salivate, scrutinize and theorize until you’re blue in the face, but its all forgotten and forgiven after you double-click that icon (if the game is stellar ).

AHAHAHAHA at those New Game websites. Look seriously, there are plenty of good games to play until AW arrives. Metal Gear Solid 4, GTAIV. It's going to be a good year for gaming, and then you'll eventually get to sink your teeth into Alan Wake.

any sane game company will release games in fall..and not in spring/summer.

I just remembered too: Alan Wake will be showing at the Tokyo Game Show in September, according to a competition run a while ago.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
If the game was canned don't you think they would tell us?
"Yes, let the loyal fans suffer in agony, waiting for a game that shall never be!" Reminds me of all the people at the gamefaqs boards for A.W. everybody spouting out its canceled "Well I haven't heard anything, so it must be true!" Dark River summed up a good portion of how I feel, this year will provide much good gaming ,and some of it horror to, play some good games for a while, let Alan Wake settle at the bottom of your mind and then when news about it finally pops up "ohh yeah that game!, was wondering about that game!" All shall be good.

I don't know when we get some news and updates, but i can understand if Remedy wants to polishing this game closer and closer to perfect and that take some time.
You know, company's future depends on this game and it's success. But sure, some updates would be nice.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Remedy marketing must have some master plan where keeping us in the dark is part of it, or likely they are deluded into believing they have one. Marketing/advertising division is so anal-retentive that they actually think every little screenshot or video needs to be scrutinized and analyzed for whatever possible way it will be interpreted negatively or positively, but mostly their "expertise" in advertising is pseudo-logic BS.
I honestly hope they actually don't have anyone specifically hired for that..... EDIT: Though it could be someone in my profession ****-blocking any updates

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Seriously, Kids, please leave your condescending comments at the door.
YOU DON'T CARE IF IT EFFECTS REMEDY, YOU ONLY CARE THAT YOU DON'T GET TO PLAY IT NOW. Making comments like "ohhh we haven't heard of anything in 2 years is so bad, remedy your going down your going to fail" is retarded. If your 14 and you feel you have to make a comments, write them on your livejournal or something.

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
Then tell me, how much of a difference will it make if they released a little, tiny bit of info now, and later launch their official marketing campaign, or say nothing now, and later...launch their official marketing?
I don't think it matters very much. You see, just as you would lose interest with it now...the 2nd they start advertising and you finally see some advancements, info and some new sh!t, once again, you'll be all over the game. So, what exactly does it affect? |

Re: Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud.
I don't mind people saying "Oh yeah I wouldn't mind seeing some screen shots, it's been 2 years etc." But what I can't stand is condescending oh I know what's better for the company comments like "It's over remedy, no one is going to buy your game your not advertising it enough, I'm not going to take any more interest in your game anymore" *winge winge cries to mommy*
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some screen shots. But if it was *your* game you'd probably want to market it in the way *you* see fit.

Although, come to think of it, it has been a long time since Mika last posted... ![]() Seriously though, while that does happen at some publishers, I expect Remedy have got better things to do right now. It's probably* about controlling the anticipation and expectations of the game. It's pretty straightforward: - if you show too much material, people eventually get tired of it. This might sound crazy, but it's entirely possible to be over-exposed to a game and become desensitised to it. I would imagine that there's only so many 'sunset' and 'mountain' screenshots you can show off before they lose their impact. "Oooh it's another... road! Except this time the sky is overcast!" Granted, if you show nothing, people start to lose hope -- that's where we've been for the last year or so -- it's a tricky balancing act. But, with a long development time you don't want to show off your best material right away. It's really tempting, but I've made this mistake in the past with some of my mods, and found it very hard to impress people towards the end of development (which is exactly when you want to impress them). It's like poker -- if you've got a pair of aces, the last thing you want to do is tell everyone. Timing is everything. In short: Quote:
*Since this thread is linked to a few major news sites, I want to clarify that this is just my 'off the record' opinion. None of the forum staff are privy to insider information regarding release dates or media updates. However, to paraphrase 3D Realms, when it's time you'll know - you won't have to speculate or read between the lines.
