Is Alan Wake cancelled for 360 ? - Answer: Nope

Also please note that Microsoft still has exclusive publishing rights to Alan Wake (regardless of the fact that Remedy is a third party developer and owns the IP) and as such Alan Wake is NOT going to appear on the PlayStation 3. It is a PC and Xbox 360 title.

I read a major 1st party MS title will be cancelled in 1UP, and they said the rumor is 97% certain, so is it this game ???

No it's not. Alan Wake isn't a first party title. Remedy isn't owned by Microsoft, MS simply have publishing rights.

Development is continuing as strong as always. Hang in there.

Man, if you want to stir up a rumour, do it on a Saturaday when no one is available to comment.

I'm 97% sure it's not Alan Wake. But we'll try and get a confirmation as soon as possible (probably monday). Also, about the 'no info' thing - remember that Remedy did exactly the same thing with Max Payne 2 - there were no screenshots until a few months before it went gold.

But it could be anything really...

I'm leaning towards Banjo Kazooie 3, because as far as I know, there's been virtually no info on that - at all (except for a teaser trailer, which doesn't look in-game).

Look, i am NOT streering rumors, this is one of my most wanted titles ever, together with Fable 2, so i just would like to know, since this would be a devastating blow in my 360 collection

I chose these forums to ask, because it is the only place IMO that we can get a valid answer, and the game is really hurt right now, there are many threads in many forums suggesting the game is cancelled, and that is the game 1UP has in mind

So, it would be best for us AND the devleopers if they cleared up the game is still on track

As for the 1st party thing, everyone suggest it is the IP that is owned by MS, so it is 1st party title, and they can cancell it, or something like that, again a valid point to be answered, if indeed the Alan Wake name is owned by MS, could be this one 1UP meant

In other words, Remedy is acting as a third party developer for Microsoft Game Studios. MGS provides outsourcing and development resources for the game, but has no development power over the title. Even before the MGS announcement, Remedy had enough grounding to "shop around" for publishing deals and eventually settled on Microsoft.
Even if it is the game in question, Remedy could simply pull out of the publishing deal and go for another publisher (previous collaborations - 3D Realms, Rockstar...)

This is my 2ond most acticipated game in all platforms, after Fable 2, and jsut would be sad if i could not get it for my 360, i have a pc that could run it, but i HATE playing on pc's

It could be Too Human. That title has gone overbudget, and Silicon Knights is suing Epic, so MGS probably pulled the plug because it's turning into a disaster.

A "rumor" being (according to Dictionary.com):

A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin... Unverified information received from another; hearsay.

I'd rather have Alan Wake get canned than Too Human, dont get me wrong Alan Wake looks cool, but I doubt its gonna live up to the hype. Not to mention we havent had any info on it in ages so Im starting to just not care. But both Alan Wake and Too Human should be safe, seeing as neither game is 1st party, and Remedy apparently has said its not Alan Wake.

Two Fable 2 Dev Team members have separately came out and said that it's not their project that's getting canned:

Responding to the rumor that Lionhead's Fable 2 might be the "big Microsoft first party title" that is getting cancelled, two Lionhead dev team members have separately posted in the official community.

The Bag, a Lionhead dev team member and forum moderator: "No, we are not canceled."

Sam, another dev team member, added: "It's not Fable 2, I can tell you that much."

I think the most two likely candidates are Banjo Kazooie 3 and Too Human.

Banjo Kazooie 3 because I conjecture Rare has pulled dev members from that project and transferred them over to working on the rumored Perfect Dark 2. Microsoft is not getting another Halo FPS in the next two to three years, and they desperately needs a huge FPS to fill in the void. So the next FPS champion for Xbox will have to be Perfect Dark 2. Microsoft wants Rare to put in 110% effort into Perfect Dark 2 and make it a big hit. (And I think if Rare fails to deliver again with Perfect Dark 2, it's likely Microsoft will shut them down.)

Too Human because the project has turned into a disaster: the project has gone overbudget and dragged on for too long, and Silicon Knights (the developer) is suing another Microsoft's third-party developer Epic. It's getting out of control and unmanageable. So Microsoft has likely decided to put an end to the fiasco (and never to work with Silicon Knights again.)

Hey now, I wasn't attacking you (although reading my post again, it does read that way ) - it was more a general response to the interview, and the somewhat irresponsibility (of 1up) of stirring up an uncomfirmed rumour like this during the weekend, when the developers aren't in the office to comment. That's all.


I'm with TheRoundPeg on this - Banjo, Too Human, and (perhaps) Halo Wars (not sure if it's 1st party though) are my bets.

EDIT: It's worth clarifying that the 'Shane' in that 1up podcast is not Shane Kim, of Microsoft. It's Shane Bettenhausen, of EGM.
